Cattle producers, ranchers, dairy farmers and producers who grow hay and forage for sale to stockmen will all have a chance to learn something of value when the Kansas Forage and Grassland Council (KSFGC), in cooperation with Kansas State University, holds its Winter Forage Conference and annual meeting on Dec. 12.
The event will be held this year at the Webster Conference Center, 2601 N. Ohio St., Salina, Kan. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the conference kicks off at 9 a.m.
Two grower panels will be part of this year’s program along with breakout sessions led by Kansas State University and industry experts, including: “Alfalfa Pests and Predators,” “Rotational Grazing, ” “How and Why Cattle Graze” and “Non-GMO Alfalfa.” There also will be an alfalfa industry update given by Beth Nelson, president of the National Alfalfa & Forage Alliance.
“Current and Future Kansas Forage Trends” will be the keynote address by Mike Brouk, professor, animal sciences and industry, Kansas State University.
Other speakers for the conference will include Travis Mulliniks, range beef nutritionist at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln; Dusty Tacha and Doug Spencer, National Resources Conservation Service specialists; Doug Shoup, Kansas State University area agronomist; and Jeff Whitworth, K-State Extension entomologist.
Conference registration is free to 2018 Kansas Forage and Grassland Council members. For non-members and those who have not yet renewed for 2018, the cost is $45, which includes both KSFGC and American Forage and Grassland Council membership, along with subscriptions to both Progressive Forage and Hay & Forage Grower magazines. Online registration by Dec. 3 is recommended.
